Good Old Days

It’s really starting to feel and look like Christmas everywhere. When you stroll around the mall or walk along the high streets, colorful decorations are there to guide you. Christmas trees, lights, different ornaments and the Christmas songs remind us of how lovely and amazing this season every year.

Philippine culture is a lot different from other countries. Simbang Gabi (nine-day series of masses) will be starting real soon. Along with that is the Christmas Caroling. In European countries, caroling is held in churches or in malls. In Philippines, children and adult alike go to different houses to do the caroling.

I remember when I was a child; I will go around our village with my cousins to sing Christmas carols. We had different kind of musical instruments with us. In fact some are DIY instruments. Mine was a coin bank made of empty baby powder container. It doesn’t matter anyway whether you have high end instrument or just those made of bottle crowns. What’s important was that we all had something to play with the entire night.

Good old days were so great to recall especially the moments when we all end up running because an angry dog was unleashed. Good thing no one got bitten.

By the way, I'm not one of those shouting "ang babarat ninyo" (penny-pinching fellow) if the home owner gives one peso only. LOL
