Beware of Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis or also known as sore eyes or pink eye are commonly cause by viral infection. Although there are cases cause by bacteria or some allergic infection. It is the inflammation affecting the thin covering of the eyeball and the inner eyelid. It is a very contagious condition that can generally acquired by touching your eyes with your contaminated hands.

Symptoms usually manifest 3-5 days and will last for 14 days. Among the symptoms to watch out are the following:

  • Redness of eyes
  • Burning sensation
  • Discomfort
  • Sensitive to light (Photophobia)
  • Hard to open the eyes
  • Presence of discharge like water
If you think you are suffering any of these symptoms, go to your doctor immediately to avoid further problem to you and to anyone you'll get contact with. If by any chance you need to go out, wear a protection like julbo sunglasses to prevent you from touching your eyes directly. Do not touch anything around you in public places and avoid shaking hands with others.

Doctors and other healthcare practitioners advice people with sore eyes to stay at home until all symptoms subside. Commonly, doctors prescribe anti-viral, antibiotic drops or/ and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Prevent using make-up while you have these sore eyes to avoid contaminating your cosmetics. Always disinfect surfaces and knobs to prevent transfer of infection. Make sure you are treated successfully before going back to work or school.

  1. That is scary. Our eyes is very important, it's a must that we take extra care of it!

  2. Sore eyes is one of the most irritating conditions to have as the eyes can get very itchy and painful.

  3. I hate having sore eyes. It doesn't only affect my vision but also my mood. Nakakainit ng ulo. And yes, make ups are big no nos when we have conjunctivitis.

  4. Thanks for the tips, as for me, if I have problem in my eye after 24 hours I run in the doctor to make sure everything is okay.

  5. oh my gosh, this is really scary. I hope not to get this kind of disease.

  6. i remember to experience sore eyes when I was in grade 2..till now wala na..buti na lang!

  7. Whah.. naalala ko tuloy yung last visit ni KM sa amin. My grandchild happened to have a sore eyes na ibang klase talaga. Nahawa tuloy si KM.. I can't recall kung kailan ako huling nagka-sore eyes if ever. But just the same thanks for your very useful tips.

  8. My little nephew had it just recently and I truly feel sorry for the little kiddo. I hate having this too and it's bad how this spreads around.

  9. Believe it or not, I haven't had sore eyes before.. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing, but I literally haven't had the infection.. I wanted so badly to get it when I was a kid, just to see how it would feel (and to use as an excuse for not going to school..hehehe), but I never got it.. But, I am not asking for it now.. I just find it weird that I haven't had sore eyes since I was born..

  10. Thank you for this info...I remember having conjunctivitis too and I had such a hard time because there was no one else to take over my job and I had to endure working even with sore eyes wearing dark shades and barely seeing what I was writing being in tears literally because of trying to use my eyes...I never want to experience that ever again...have a healthy Wednesday :)
