Be Prepared to Save Lives

I remember one time when I was playing with my 2 year old nephew. He found a small toy on the floor and quickly eat it. The scary thing happened, he was choking. Good thing I knew how to do the Heimlich Maneuver and that was a relief.

Choking is very common in children under 4 years old. It also happened on adults in rare instances like talking much when eating or unconciously putting something inside the mouth. Elderly people are also prone to choking.

The best way to help anyone choking or other emergency cases is to be prepared. Having said that, attending a CPR couse is recommended. If you already learned them before and seems to forget something, attend a refresher course. It is also important to know the steps on how to do Heimlich Manuever for children over 1 year old and for adults (I will make a separate post to enumerate these steps). There's a different way to deal with choking babies. Do not attempt to do Heimlich Manuever to babies.

I'm delighted to see that most of places and buildings I've been have CPR poster and choking poster. Even cinemas have a quick advertisement on how to do cpr. These are just few ways to guide or remind us on what to do in case of emergency. If your office or school do not have these posters yet better grab a bundle and post on conspicuous areas.

Do not wait for bad things to happen, be prepared to save lives.
