Few Things About Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that can be used in treating infections such as the following:
  • Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases
  • Dermatological Issues
  • Other Unusual Infections including cholera, gastroenteritis and conjunctivitis.
Who should NOT take this drug?
  • If allergic to this medicine or any tetracyclines
  • If pregnant or breast-feeding
  • If taking other antibiotic, antacids, iron or calcium preparations, barbiturates or other anti-epileptic drugs, anticoagulant drugs, and other over-the-counter medicines.
Administration:
  • Take on full stomach.
  • Take with full glass of water.
  • Avoid taking with dairy products.

Special Precautions and Contraindications:
  • Doxycycline should not be given to children under the age of 8 years. This is because doxycycline may cause staining of developing teeth.
  • If pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take this medicine.
  • Always tell your doctors if you’re taking other medications.
  • Do not take more than prescribed dose.
  • If you forget to take this drug on prescribed time, take it as soon as you remember. If almost time for the next dose, wait until then and do not double the dose.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or artificial source of light (sun-beds) during the entire time of taking this medication because skin reaction may occur.

 Possible Side-Effects:
  • Irritation of the esophagus
  • Heartburn type  pain

Call the doctor if you suffer from any gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, burning sensation in the stomach) or if you're not feeling good in any way. Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any effects aside from anything mentioned above. 

Doxycycline is available in two dosage strength; 50 mg or 100 mg capsule. Dosage of doxycycline depends on what infection to treat. Observe proper storage of medicine.
